The fire destroyed the garage and spread to the house. The house was saved, but damaged, said Rice County Emergency Management Coordinator Terry David. The fire then spread to a neighboring garage, which suffered substantial damage. Heat from the fire caused damage to the vinyl siding on another house.
Both homes were occupied at the time of the fire, which Rice County dispatch said was called in about 4 p.m. No one was injured.
David did not have a monetary estimate for the buildings that were damaged and destroyed.
Fire departments from Geneseo, Lyons, Little River, Bushton and Ellsworth County assisted in extinguishing the fire, David said.
