A chimenea is blamed for an early-morning fire, which left substantial damage at a southwest Wichita house.
A family of three safely evacuated the home at 4623 South Vine around 4:00 a.m. Wednesday. Capt. Mike McKernan of the Wichita Fire Department says flames spread from the front porch to the ceiling and attic.
Damage was estimated at $30,000. McKernan emphasizes people should check chimeneas, fire pits and fireplaces carefully before going to bed, to ensure all signs of fire are out.
