A house fire Sunday afternoon just north of downtown near the Kansas River destroyed the structure, but no one was hurt. It wasn’t immediately clear what started the blaze, an official with the Topeka Fire Department said.
Fire crews — which received the call at 1:07 p.m. to a residence at 910 N.W. Clay — took about 30 to 40 minutes to put out the flames.
“It did a lot of damage. It burnt a considerable amount of the house and all of the attic,” said shift commander Martin Gray, adding crews were forced to cut holes in the roof.
The origin of where the fire started or how much damage was caused wasn’t immediately available.
Crews were on scene until about 3:15 p.m., and an investigation is ongoing.
No one was in the house when the fire started, Gray said.
According to Shawnee County appraisal records, the value of the house was $13,150.
