The Miller Parkway and Arbor Drive area was closed to traffic for three hours Tuesday by the Manhattan Fire Department after a front end construction loader hit a plastic gas line leaking natural gas.
Fire department Deputy Chief Ryan Almes said firefighters evacuated people from the area and Kansas Gas Service workers checked concentrations of the gas in nearby homes. Natural gas is highly flammable with a high enough concentration and interaction with oxygen.
Almes said no natural gas concentrations were found in the residents’ homes.
