Leavenworth Times – October 14, 2013

Leavenworth firefighters rescued a person over the weekend who somehow had ended up over the side of embankment by the Missouri River, a Fire Department official said.

The incident was reported at 5:10 p.m. Saturday near Riverfront Park. Assistant Fire Chief Mike Lingenfelser said the person was down a steep slope near a water intake structure used by the Leavenworth Water Department.

Firefighters placed the victim in a litter known as a Stokes basket. And using a ladder and rope system, firefighters were able to raise the litter up the slope. The patient was turned over to Leavenworth County EMS personnel, according to Lingenfelser.
