Firefighters put their lives on the line every time they respond to a call. Taking undue risk when it comes to electricity shouldn’t be part of the job. That’s why Tri-County Electric provided a live line demonstration and meal to emergency responders of Morton County Wednesday, September 25 at the Civic Center.
The demonstration was conducted by Michael Bushnell and Eric Callahan, substation technicians for the cooperative. The substation crew built the demonstration which is affixed to a 24-foot trailer and boasts 7,200 volts of power when energized.
“We are proud to be able to offer this essential safety training to first responders,” Chris Purdy, vice president of member solutions at Tri-County Electric said. “Our employees often are called to shut off power when there’s a fire but we’re not always the first on the scene. Ensuring emergency personnel understand the dangers presented by electricity can save lives.”
The cooperative is providing donations to the Morton County Fire Department, emergency management, and the ambulance service. The cooperative is planning to host similar meetings in the other counties it serves.
