Firefighters might have had a feeling of deja vu early Tuesday when they rushed to a vacant house for the second time in five hours to extinguish a “suspicious” fire.
The first fire was discovered shortly before 8 p.m. Monday in the single-story house in 2000 block of North 33rd Terrace in Kansas City, Kan.Firefighters found the fire in the rear of the house and quickly extinguished it with a small hand line. One pumper and a truck handled the blaze, which officials called suspicious. There were no utilities on in the house.
About 1 a.m. Tuesday, the same house was ablaze. Arriving firefighters found the fire in two separate areas at the rear of the house.
This time, the fire had extended to the attic and compromised the roof. Firefighters evacuated the house, knocked the fire down, and went back in.
The fire was reported under control about 1:15 a.m. Fire crews remained on the scene for another 45 minutes for overhaul and pick up.
The second fire was also called suspicious. A fire investigator was called to the scene.
No one was injured in either fire.
