Assistant Fire Chief Sean Hankin grinned at the camera as he talked to postal carrier John Kirby Saturday at the corner of Fourth and Franklin. Fire department personnel could be found with a smile and a boot–in spite of heat and wind–at Walmart and the Oasis as well as downtown that day, collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The effort, part of the nationwide Boot Block held each year by firefighters, raised $2,046. Hankin said the department usually adds its own donation on top of that.
