Greg Farney, center, is lowered into a grain bin Wednesday evening for grain engulfment rescue training in Chase. A partnership between the University of Kansas and the Kansas Grain and Feed Association resulted in the construction of a grain entrapment trailer to be used for simulation trainings. Two eight-hour classes were offered in Rice County this week because of the number of grain storage facilities in the county. The training consisted of half-days each of classroom and hands-on training in the trailer, where an individual was actually buried and rescued. Rice County firefighters, Coop personnel and Cal-Maine employees participated in the class.
