Haysville students unhurt when school bus crashes

Wichita Eagle – November 13, 2013

Eight Haysville elementary students escaped injury after the bus they were riding was involved in a head-on crash Wednesday at 55th Street South and Vandale, near Broadway.

Wichita police Sgt. Drew Seiler said evidence at the scene suggests the bus, driven by a 70-year-old, drifted into oncoming traffic as it was westbound on 55th and struck a passenger car traveling east.

None of the students on the bus was injured, he said, but two children, who are about age 9, and a 50-year-old woman in the car suffered possible injuries. The family was taken to a local hospital by private vehicle, he said, after giving statements to police.

Haysville School District spokeswoman Liz Hames said the schoolchildren on the bus are students at Ruth Clark Elementary, 1900 W. 55th St. South in Haysville.

Seiler said the bus had left the school shortly before the crash.
