The staff of the Wichita Hooters restaurant had to evacuate the building at closing time Monday night. But concern about a fire turned out to be something else.
The first report at around 11:15 p.m. indicated there might be smoke coming from the roof on North Rock Road. Acting Battalion Chief Michael Russell said firefighters searched for a cause for about 75 minutes. . “We did pick up the faint odor of an electrical smell,” Russell told KAKE News. “We eventually traced it to a TV that’s overheating.”
It turned out Hooters had no fire or smoke damage, other than the smoking TV monitor. Few customers were inside the restaurant, as it apparently closed before tipoff of the Wichita State game.
