Fairmount Township Fire Department Chief Jeff Theno presented the 2013 Kansas PRIDE Firefighter of the Year award to Stephanie Leonard this weekend at the fire department’s appreciation lunch.
Kansas PRIDE has given out the award to local volunteer firefighters for the past 20-years, according to the organization’s chapter president Chuck Wilderson.
“It’s been a community effort to honor not only the firefighters but their spouses and families who also sacrifice so much,” Wilderson said.
Leonard, the granddaughter of the late Bob Wiley, is a Basehor resident. Wilderson said she was a graduate of the fire departments cadet program several years ago.
