Firefighters say nobody was home when a fire broke out at a resident in northeast Topeka in the early Monday morning hours.
Soldier Township Fire Chief Karl McNorton told 13 News that around midnight firefighters reported that half of the home at 39th and Croco was fully engulfed in fire when they arrived.
He said the garage, kitchen and living room sustained most of the damage.
Shawnee County Dispatch said fire crews reported the fire had been extinguished around 1:20 a.m.
McNorton said no one was home at the time of the fire and that a neighbor kicked in the home’s front and back doors to make sure nobody was inside.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
McNorton said that an investigator from the state Fire Marshal Office would begin an investigation Monday morning.
