Dedicated men and women in uniform dutifully serve the public every day by responding to local emergencies and keeping the streets safe. Now they are joining forces to help save lives in a different way.
For the first time, the Pittsburg police and fire departments will “battle” to see who can bring in the most blood donors during the Pittsburg Battle of the Badges community blood drive Nov. 25-26. Community members who present to donate blood can vote for their favorite agency and be served chili by police officers and firefighters. The winning agency gets bragging rights for the year.
“You never know when you’ll be in an emergency situation where you would need that gift to maybe keep yourself or a family member alive,” said Pittsburg Police Department Major Brent Narges.
During this year’s battle, the American Red Cross hopes to collect 130 pints of blood. Because each pint can help up to three people, up to 390 patients could benefit.
