Independence police are investigating a fire that occurred at 10:21 a.m. Monday at the Allie Goodman residence, 916 E. Main, which has been labeled as suspicious.
Independence Fire Chief Rusty Baker said the fire was contained to the front room of the one-story residence, but the rest of the residence sustained heavy heat and smoke damage.
Independence Chief of Police Harry Smith said investigators are interviewing people in an attempt to find out what caused the blaze.
Smith said Goodman reported some items missing from the home after the fire. She had gone to work earlier and wasn’t at home when the fire was reported.
Baker said the loss was estimated at approximately $50,000 to the structure and the contents combined.
