Derby Fire Chief Brad Smith has been elected president of the Kansas State Association of Fire Chiefs.
Smith, who served as vice president of the association in the past year, was elected to move to the op position at the organization’s recent annual meeting.
Smith was named Derby’s fire chief in December 2004. He became the city’s first career fire chief as the department moved from an all volunteer status to a blended department of career and volunteer firefighters.
Smith worked for 25 years for the Winfield Fire Department and 3 1/2 years as El Dorado’s fire chief before taking the job in Derby.
