Emergency personnel responded to reports of a fire in the 1500 block of N.E. Monroe Monday afternoon.
Multiple units responded to a structure fire that was reported shortly before 5 p.m. at a residence at 1522 N.E. Monroe, about one block east of Quincy Elementary. The fire was in a residential area, and damaged the attic of a house.
Cindy Holt, a shift commander for the Topeka Fire Department said they conducted primary and secondary searches at the residence and no one was located. It was an unoccupied rental home, the previous occupants had begun moving out last week.
Four engines, two trucks and one aerial unit responded, and put ladders up to the second story windows on the south side of the house. The fire was contained to the attic and second floor of the house.
Investigators are working to determine where the fire was, what caused it, and how much damage it did.
An American Medical Response team treated one firefighter after he became overheated from working in his heavy uniform in what the National Weather Service reports was 95-degree heat.
