Arkansas City Traveler – October 11, 2013
Two Arkansas City residents injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon on the U.S. 77 bypass at East Madison Avenue remained hospitalized in a Wichita hospital today.
Sharon Hunt and a juvenile female passenger in Hunt’s vehicle were listed in fair condition this afternoon at Wesley Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
They were transferred to Wesley after being treated at the South Central Kansas Medical Center emergency room, said Clayton Pappan, SCKMC spokesman.
Another person injured in the accident, Keith Campbell, also of Arkansas City, was treated and released from SCKMC, he said.
Arkansas City police and EMS personnel were dispatched to the accident scene at 2:32 p.m. Ark City Police Capt. Mark McCaslin said in a press release.
Hunt was driving a black truck west on Madison and was crossing the bypass when the vehicle was struck by a white SUV driven by Campbell, McCaslin said. The SUV was southbound on the bypass.
A juvenile female in Hunt’s vehicle had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire and EMS crews, he said.
Hunt was cited for failure to yield the right of way and no proof of insurance, McCaslin said.
