The Chanute Fire and Police Department responded to a two-car accident that occurred on U.S. 169 Thursday. Two drivers were life-flighted after a southbound 2004 Toyota struck a northbound 2006 Ford Taurus at 3 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 169 a mile south of K-39.Marvin Groff, 79, Jay, Okla., was traveling south in the northbound lane and struck Deborah Young, 55, Lawrence, in the northbound outside lane. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that Groff was flown from Neosho Memorial Regional Hospital to St John’s Hospital in Tulsa by Eagle Med, and that Young was flown by Eagle Med to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo. No passengers were reported in either vehicle. The KHP said Young was wearing a safety restraint, but Groff was not.
