USD 454 staff and teachers, and Burlingame’s emergency services, conducted an intruder drill Friday at the high school and grade school. The children were not in attendance.
“We’ve always had our lock-down drills, but not an actual mock situation,” said USD 454 Superintendent Allen Konicek.
This drill was different because not only did the sheriff, police, fire and Osage County Emergency Services take part, but a person posing as an intruder took part as well, Konicek said.
“It was very worthwhile to go through and see some adjustments we need to make. The teachers reacted well for all we have trained for,” Konicek said.
Konicek credits the administration for coming up with the idea to bring in community emergency services.
