Two people were injured, one critically, in a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday afternoon in northern Shawnee County.
Law enforcement officials were called at 4;51 p.m. Tuesday US-75 highway and N.W. 62nd, where a northbound van struck a westbound passenger car as it attempted to cross the highway intersection.
Kansas Highway Patrol master trooper Eric Hirst said both vehicles were occupied only by their drivers. He said a red van was northbound on US-75 when it struck a westbound blue Buick that apparently didn’t see the oncoming traffic as it attempted to cross the highway.
The two women involved in the accident were transported to Topeka hospitals. The driver of the Buick was the most seriously injured, Hirst said. The injuries to the van’s driver weren’t believed to be life-threatening.
Troopers, along with American Medical Response personnel, Shawnee County Sheriff’s deputies and Soldier Township firefighters, responded to the scene.
Troopers took photographs and measurements at the scene, and both vehicles were loaded onto wreckers and removed.
Northbound traffic on US-75 was being allowed to slowly pass through the accident scene in one lane as of 5:40 p.m.
The names, ages and conditions of the driver weren’t available as of 6:40 p.m.
