Investigators were looking into the cause Tuesday night of a fire that killed two dogs.
Portions of Fourth Avenue were closed for more than an hour as firefighters battled the blaze at the intersection of Augustine. No one was injured.
About 9:30 p.m., Battalion Chief Darin Gehring said he did not know the cause of the fire at the 1,440 square-foot home. When firefighters from the Hutchinson and Buhler Fire Departments arrived shortly after 8 p.m., the fire was toward the back of the home and extending into the attic.
“There were a lot of flames, a lot of smoke and a lot of heat,” Gehring said.
The fire caused extensive damage to the home, but the home was not destroyed Gehring said.
“It will take a lot of remodel,” he said, though he did not have an estimated amount it would cost.
Firefighters planned to stay at the home until at least 10:30 or 11 p.m. to make sure the fire was out.
