Kingman first responders answered a call to a home fire at 821 N. Elm around 5:45 p.m. Saturday, September 7.
Kevin Basart told officials he had started to cook something on his stove before he fell asleep. When he woke up his fire alarms were ringing and the house was in flames.
Basart made it out of the home and was treated on the scene by EMS workers. He refused transportation to the hospital for further evaluation.
Basart not only lost his home to the fire, but also lost his pet. He was not able to get his dog out of the house during the fire.
Firefighters had the flames out quickly, but they had to take measures to monitor hot spots well into the evening.
