A family of five – including three young children – evacuated from their home after a fire ignited inside it Thursday.
The fire was reported to the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department at around 10:40 a.m. Thursday morning.
Fire crews raced out to the scene at 1414 W. 37th Avenue and when arriving, they found smoke coming out of the roof of the home.
“Crews were informed that all residents had self-evacuated,” said Craig Duke, Deputy Chief of the KCK Fire Department. “Primary search confirmed
all residents out of structure. Heavy smoke found in the attic area.”
The cause of the fire was an electrical problem, according to fire investigators.
The American Red Cross was called out to assist the family, three of which are young children —- all under the age of four.
No one was injured by the fire, which caused about $9,000 worth of damage.
