Bushton City Hall received substantial structural, smoke and water damage at 5 p.m. September 5, after fumes from gasoline leaking from a generator caught fire in the shop area in back of the structure. According to Cody Goforth, Rice County undersheriff, a nearby water heater ignited the gasoline fumes. Firefighters from Bushton, Claflin, Geneseo and Chase responded to battle the fire. No injuries were reported.
