The annual Battle of the Badges Red Cross blood drive was held Tuesday at the Independence Civic Center.

There were 114 donors presenting with 101 units of blood collected with seven first time donors. There were also 21 local volunteers assisting in this activity who collectively gave 121 hours.

All donors were able to vote for their favorite city department, either the police or the fire department.

In this competition, the fire department received the most votes and kept their traveling trophy.

Bill Calfisch was the winner of the drawing and received a dinner coupon donated by El Pueblito.

The participants were served hot dogs, chips and ice cream for the event.

The next local Red Cross blood drive will be Tuesday, Oct. 15.
