Friday, October 18 at 8:34 a.m. Lyons Fire Department, Rice County EMS, Sterling Fire Department and Lyons Police Department responded to a house fire at 215 E Washington Street. Lyons Fire Chief, Brad Reid was on the scene and explained that they saw heavy smoke with flames coming from the west side. Firefighters made a hole on the east side of the roof to vent smoke and heat from the attic. Hoses were seen at the west window. Sterling Fire Department entered through the front door with a hose to quench the fire. Reid said, “The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however it is more than likely electrical.” Reid estimates damages between $40,000 and $50,000 which may be a total loss. There were no reported injuries.
