A house fire last Thursday night in a Navarre area home has displaced a family of six for the Christmas holidays. The fire happened at the home of Shadd and Janice Snyder and their four children who range from age 7-13 and attend school at Enterprise Elementary and Chapman Middle School. No one was injured in the fire, according to DKFD #1 Chief Paul Froelich, whose unit responded to the fire.

The house suffered substantial damage and is not inhabitable. The children’s bedrooms on the second floor were a total loss, including clothing, toys, belongings, and furnishings.

The main floor suffered smoke and water damage, according to Enterprise Elementary School Principal Luan Sparks, who has stayed in touch with the family.

“The kids lost all of their toys, as the play room was a finished room in the attic,” Sparks said. She said the family was staying at a hotel.

Emails went out to help the family, and Sparks said there had been quite an influx of used clothing, but it needed to be sorted to see what was still needed.

A fund has been set up at the Junction City Fire Department where Shadd is employed.
