El Dorado, Kan.  —  What do you look forward to about serving as chief?

The department has a great tradition and the size of the department is just a perfect match for what I think would be an enjoyable experience of working. I love my time in Stafford County but with the little larger community my wife will just love living there too. I am just really excited about the opportunity.

What attracted you to the position at the El Dorado Fire Department?

My daughter-in-law was the reason I came here (Leavenworth). It was an opportunity that arose where they were going through some difficulties with a couple different directors. With my past experience, I thought it would be a nice challenge, but it never was planned to be long term. This (El Dorado) was a move back to the middle so to speak and I think it’s kind of the most fun position and fun size.

Past experience

Steven Moody has had a diverse career in fire and emergency service spanning 35 years.  He has served as deputy chief for the Salina Fire Department, fire chief for the Leavenworth Fire Department, and most recently was the Emergency Service director for Stafford County.
