Chanute Police and Fire responded to suspicious fire at 621 W. Walnut at 1:51 p.m. The house was to be demolished, the utilities were disconnected from the house, and the blaze advanced rapidly. The Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office has been contacted to assist Chanute Police and Fire investigators at the scene. The structure is very hazardous, and the public is being asked to stay off the property during the investigation.
