Areas affected...Far Eastern South Dakota and Western North Dakota

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 342...

Valid 200212Z - 200315Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 342
continues.

SUMMARY...Severe threat is likely to develop across western North
Dakota over the next hour. Wind damage and large hail will be
likely, and weather watch issuance will be needed soon.

DISCUSSION...Latest radar imagery from Glasgow, Montana shows an
intense supercell in far eastern Montana, which produced an 83 mph
wind gust within the last half hour. This storm is associated with a
shortwave trough and vorticity max over eastern Montana, which will
continue to move northeastward into western North Dakota this
evening. Moderate instability, strong deep-layer shear and steep
mid-level lapse rates will support continued supercell development
with a potential for large hail. Wind damage will also be likely.
