Mesoscale Discussion 1390
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0325 PM CDT Sun Jul 02 2023

Areas affected...southern VA and northern NC

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 433...

Valid 022025Z - 022200Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 433
continues.

SUMMARY...Additional convective development is possible this
afternoon with a damaging wind risk across portions of southern
Virginia and northern North Carolina.

DISCUSSION...Outflow has raced ahead of the dying cluster of storms
on the Virginia/North Carolina border, with cumulus apparent on the
leading edge across northern North Carolina. Additional outflow from
storms across central North Carolina is moving northward, and the
interaction of these outflows could promote additional convective
development across WW433. The air mass between these two outflows
remains strongly unstable with little inhibition. Additionally, weak
deep-layer shear and modest low-level lapse rates would promote
downbursts with any additional development.
