Areas affected...Parts of central Alabama
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 481...
Valid 220023Z - 220200Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 481
continues.
SUMMARY...The risk of strong to severe gusts continues across the
eastern portions of Severe Thunderstorm Watch 481.
DISCUSSION...Latest radar data from KMXX/KBMX shows a swath of
strong velocities over parts of central AL in association with a
southward-advancing MCS -- where multiple reports of wind damage and
60 mph gusts have occurred. Ahead of the MCS, lower 90s temperatures
amid middle 70s dewpoints are contributing to moderate/strongly
unstable surface-based inflow, while 25-35 kt of midlevel flow (per
regional VWP) oriented perpendicular to the cold pool should
continue to result in deep/persistent updrafts along the
consolidated outflow boundary. As the MCS continues southward,
strong to severe gusts up to 65 mph will continue to be the main
threat along the organized cold pool. While moderate to strong
instability extends southward across southern AL, additional
convective development ahead of the cold pool could eventually
stabilize the inflow for the MCS -- resulting in a gradual decrease
in severe threat with southward extent aided by increasing nocturnal
stability. However, convective evolution remains somewhat uncertain
with southward extent, and trends will continue to be monitored.
