MD 1850 CONCERNING TORNADO WATCH 548… FOR EASTERN NORTH CAROLINA.
Mesoscale Discussion 1850 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0213 PM CDT Fri Sep 30 2022 Areas affected...Eastern North Carolina. Concerning...Tornado Watch 548... Valid 301913Z - 302115Z The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 548 continues. SUMMARY...The tornado threat has shifted north across eastern North Carolina. DISCUSSION...Deeper, cellular convection on the northern/eastern periphery of Hurricane Ian's circulation has shifted farther north along the North Carolina coast. A tornado or two remains possible across portions of southeast North Carolina, but the primary threat has now shifted to east-central North Carolina. 70+ degree surface dewpoints have now advanced around 1 county inland and are expected to advance further inland as Ian continues to move west. At least one tornado and one waterspout have been reported thus far with additional rotating storms still present. Low-level streamwise vorticity has lessened over the past few hours at the KLTX and more recently from the KMHX VWP. Therefore, expect the primary tornado threat to be north of Morehead City where the more favorable wind profile and deeper convection is located. ..Bentley.. 09/30/2022 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
