Mesoscale Discussion 1868
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0502 PM CDT Wed Oct 12 2022
Areas affected...Southern Arkansas...northern Louisiana...and
northern/central Mississippi
Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 549...
Valid 122202Z - 122330Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 549
continues.
SUMMARY...A few isolated supercells are expected to continue to pose
a large hail threat into the evening.
DISCUSSION...A few supercells have developed late this afternoon
across southern Arkansas and northern Mississippi. Given the veered
and relatively weak low-level flow, expect the primary hazard to be
large hail with this activity. A few additional storms are trying to
develop, but have yet to reach maturity. Cannot rule out another
storm or two, within the next hour, but expect additional
pre-frontal development to wane once the sun starts to set.
Storms currently developing in north-central Mississippi and central
Mississippi are in closer proximity to backed low-level flow across
eastern portions of the state. This curvature could lead to a
greater tornado threat, but with relatively weak low-level flow,
expect any tornado threat to remain brief.
Additional development is expected along the cold front across
central Arkansas later this evening (around 00Z). These storms may
pose a damaging wind threat.
