The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 554 continues.
SUMMARY...The severe threat continues across Tornado Watch 554.
Damaging gusts remain the predominant threat, but QLCS tornadoes
remain possible with embedded supercells or mesovortices interacting
with a stationary boundary.
DISCUSSION...A QLCS with a history of severe gusts, marginal severe
hail, and a couple of possible tornadoes continues to track east
across central TX amid a highly sheared airmass. Well ahead of the
storms, the GRK VAD profile depicted large, curved low-level
hodographs over the past couple of hours, indicating that the LLJ
intensified across central TX. A continued northward flux of 67+ F
surface dewpoints and near 80F temperatures will continue to foster
destabilization ahead of the storms. The QLCS is expected to
progress eastward across the rest of Tornado Watch 554 and central
TX over the next few hours with a continued severe threat. Severe
gusts are the main threat given the linear storm mode. However,
occasional bouts of rotation and possible brief tornadoes may
continue to develop with portions of the QLCS that are interacting
with an east-west baroclinic zone, and this is where the greatest
severe threat exists.
