Mesoscale Discussion 1960
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1253 PM CST Fri Nov 18 2022

Areas affected...Southwestern Pennsylvania into far northwestern
West Virginia

Concerning...Snow Squall

Valid 181853Z - 182300Z

SUMMARY...Snow squall potential will continue through the afternoon
with snowfall rates 1+ inches per hour.

DISCUSSION...An ongoing snow squall was located along across
Allegheny County east the Pittsburgh metro extending northward into
Butler and Armstrong Counties. This continues to move eastward with
a surface cold front. Surface observations show southwest winds
gusting 20-30 mph along and ahead of the surface front. Snowfall
rates around 1 inch per hour with reduced visibility from blowing
snow will continue to create dangerous travel conditions as this
squall moves eastward across Allegheny, Butler, and Armstrong
counties. Along and ahead of the cold front, shallow low-level
destabilization and strong surface winds will allow further
development of snow squalls, with bursts of heavy snow and reduced
visibility, over the next couple of hours across portions of
southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia.
