Mesoscale Discussion 0282
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK

Areas affected...Central FL Panhandle...Far Southwest GA

Concerning...Tornado Watch 52...

Valid 182217Z - 182345Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 52 continues.

SUMMARY...The threat for isolated damaging wind gusts and/or a brief
tornado may continue past 23Z. An extension in time may needed to be
considered for portions of Tornado Watch 52.

DISCUSSION...A line of thunderstorms continues to move eastward
across the central FL Panhandle and adjacent parts of far southwest
GA. Northern portion of this line has recently shown more forward
propagation than areas farther south. Storm motion within the
northern portion of the line is estimated at 40 kt, bringing it to
the edge of Tornado Watch 52 soon. This portion of the line is
likely elevated behind the surface front and continues to move
eastward into a less favorable thermodynamic environment. More
southerly/westerly portion of the line is moving considerable
slower, with recent storm motion estimated at 25 kt. Some
acceleration may occur as this portion of the line interacts with
the southward moving outflow. Even so, thunderstorms will likely
persist across the central FL Peninsula past the watch expiration
time of 23Z. Environmental conditions will continue to support
isolated damaging wind gusts and a brief tornado or two, so an
extension in time may needed to be considered for Tornado Watch 52.
