Mesoscale Discussion 0763
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1222 PM CDT Thu May 11 2023
Areas affected...Northeastern Louisiana...southeast Arkansas...and
much of central and southern Mississippi.
Concerning...Tornado Watch 210...
Valid 111722Z - 111815Z
The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 210 continues.
SUMMARY...The severe weather threat continues within tornado watch
210. A downstream watch may be needed soon.
DISCUSSION...Severe weather continues on the eastern periphery of a
MCV in northern Louisiana from a combination of bowing segments and
discrete supercells. Expect the tornado threat to be primarily
associated with the supercells which develop ahead of the bow in a
region of increased low-level SRH on the periphery of the MCV.
However, through time, expect the MCS to accelerate eastward across
Mississippi and potentially outrun the MCV which will make supercell
development less likely ahead of the bow. Eventually, this may also
outrun the enhanced low-level jet into a region with building
heights aloft across the Southeast which may weaken the severe
weather threat.
However, the environment should remain favorable across most of
Mississippi this afternoon and a downstream watch will likely be
needed within the hour.
