Day 1 Convective Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0754 PM CDT Sun Oct 23 2022 Valid 240100Z - 241200Z ...THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS FOR AREAS OF EXTREME EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA...EXTREME NORTHWESTERN IOWA...AND FAR SOUTHWESTERN MINNESOTA... ...SUMMARY... Thunderstorms capable of severe wind gusts and hail are possible for parts of the Upper Midwest into early tonight. ...Synopsis... Strong to occasionally severe thunderstorms will continue to progress northeastward across portions of the Upper Midwest in advance of an approaching mid-level impulse. Despite meager moisture return and associated buoyancy, a few more instances of severe hail or wind may accompany the more organized storms given the presence of strong shear and forcing for ascent. Nonetheless, boundary-layer stabilization is underway in association with nocturnal cooling, and the severe threat is expected to gradually subside into the late evening hours. Meanwhile, a couple of strong thunderstorms may still develop in advance of a richer moisture plume across the southern Plains as surface lee troughing locally intensifies late tonight. RAP forecast soundings depict very thin CAPE profiles given poor tropospheric lapse rates, but long, straight hodographs. Any storms that can mature and intensify may produce a severe gust or instance of large hail. ..Squitieri.. 10/24/2022
