The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a
* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Central and eastern Iowa
Extreme northwestern Illinois
* Effective this Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from 955 PM
until 400 AM CDT.
* Primary threats include...
Scattered large hail likely with isolated very large hail events
to 2 inches in diameter possible
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
A tornado or two possible
SUMMARY...A band of storms, some with supercell structures, will
continue spreading eastward from central into eastern Iowa
overnight. The primary threats will be large hail and damaging
winds with the embedded supercells or short bowing segments, though
a tornado or two may also occur with embedded circulations.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 70
statute miles east and west of a line from 30 miles north northeast
of Cedar Rapids IA to 45 miles southwest of Ottumwa IA. For a

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
