MD 1128 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 337… FOR NORTHEAST NEBRASKA…WESTERN IOWA…FAR SOUTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA
Mesoscale Discussion 1128 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0324 AM CDT Tue Jul 07 2020 Areas affected...Northeast Nebraska...Western Iowa...Far Southeast South Dakota Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 337... Valid 070824Z - 071030Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 337 continues. SUMMARY...A severe threat will likely continue for another hour or so across northeast Nebraska. As the line of storms approaches the Nebraska-Iowa state line, the threat is expected to become marginal. Wind damage and hail will be the primary threats. No new watch is expected downstream. DISCUSSION...The latest radar imagery shows a line of strong thunderstorms from far southeast South Dakota into northeast Nebraska. The line of storms is supported by a 30 to 40 kt low-level jet over the central Plains and by a minor shortwave trough moving through the northern Plains. Although a wind-damage and hail threat may continue for another hour or so, the line of storms is moving away from the low-level jet which is centered over western Nebraska. The line of storms has also shown some weakening characteristics including warming cloud tops on IR imagery. For this reason, the threat should become increasingly isolated, especially as the convection approaches the Nebraska-Iowa state line. ..Broyles/Edwards.. 07/07/2020 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
