Areas affected...Portions of southwestern and central Missouri

Concerning...Tornado Watch 47...

Valid 010616Z - 010745Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 47 continues.

SUMMARY...Severe thunderstorms will progress eastward across Watch
47 through the overnight hours, with a continuing threat for
damaging winds and a couple tornadoes.

DISCUSSION...The composite cold front/outflow boundary has begun to
accelerate east/southeast across northern portions of Tornado Watch
47 early this morning. While several updrafts have become rooted
over top of the cold pool, a few cells remain rooted along/near the
surface boundary. KSGF VWP data recently sampled southwesterly flow
around 60-70 kts at 1 km above ground level, with a fairly
uni-directional wind profile at low/mid levels. In turn, small
bowing structures should continue advancing east/northeastward
across Watch 47, with an attendant threat for damaging winds with
any near-surface-based parcels. Additionally, strong 0-1-km shear
could still favor a tornado or two within any embedded supercell
structures as storms advance to the east.
