MD 0473 CONCERNING SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 136… FOR FAR NORTHEAST KANSAS/NORTHERN MISSOURI/SOUTHEAST IOWA/NORTHWEST ILLINOIS
Mesoscale Discussion 0473 NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0153 AM CDT Mon Apr 10 2017 Areas affected...far northeast Kansas/northern Missouri/southeast Iowa/northwest Illinois Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 136... Valid 100653Z - 100900Z The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 136 continues. SUMMARY...Isolated strong/occasionally severe thunderstorms persist across portions of the area in/near Severe Thunderstorm Watch #136. DISCUSSION...A very slow/marginal decrease in storm intensity is ongoing across the northern Missouri area per radar imagery over the past hour, though some increase in convection is ongoing just east/northeast of the watch across eastern Iowa and into northwest Illinois. The storms are ongoing just ahead of the cold front crossing eastern IA/eastern Kansas and nosing into northwest Missouri, within an axis of around 1500 J/kg mixed-layer CAPE. Aided by strong (50 to 60 kt) southwesterly flow around 1 km, locally damaging winds will be possible locally, in addition to an ongoing/marginally severe hail risk. While the most active convection may continue to spread/develop east of the ongoing WW, a new watch is not anticipated at this time given diminishing CAPE with eastward extent into Illinois and continued/gradual stabilization of the boundary layer. ..Goss.. 04/10/2017 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov for graphic product...
